Little Bear's Adventure's
Never Too Early I reminded Beth that Thanksgiving is one week away. I told her that she should get out the silver, in case it needs polishing. Don't Wait! You should never wait until the last minute. That was really just a clever excuse! I love climbing in the silver! A spoon makes a very good mirror!

Pool Time The last time I enjoyed the pool, my lower paws got really wet. Beth flipped the ring over and stuffed something in the hole so I'd stay dry. That was before I got lost in New York, where I had some dangerous adventures and had to have my paws stitched up! Now it's September and hot... and I want to swim! I asked my friend Rose to join me and she said "No thanks." She also warned me about getting my stitches wet. Why is she always so practical? So I dug up a toy canoe. (Ordinarily, I don't do toys) But I wanted some pool time! It was kind of nice floating around. But why didn't Rose remind me about a paddle when she was doing all her reminding! If I'd had a paddle I could have prevented... being sucked into the stupid skimmer thing! Spinning Around This picture is blurry because I was spinning in circles! And the skimmer basket below me was stinky with moldy leaves. I've heard stories about frogs, turtles and small snakes trapped in here. This was really creepy. Usually I love adventure, but this just made me nauseous. Rose Helped She pulled me out and gave me a towel and a beach chair. I like adventure, but it wasn't too bad just sitting a while in the sun. Rose didn't try to lecture me at all.
Me and The Flag I know there are a lot of flag rules. I'm hoping I didn't break a rule when I climbed to the top of the flag to enjoy the breeze for a while. Marching! I found a smaller flag and practiced some marching, to Sousa's The Stars and Stripes Forever. Have you ever tried marching in grass that is nearly up to your shoulder? Somebody around here needs to mow the lawn... I'm just sayin'. My Friend Sam I spent some time with my good old friend, Sam. I like hanging out on his shoulder. We just watch the world a little bit. Sometimes we talk. Sometimes I ask Sam personal questions like, "Can I call you uncle?" or "Where's your beard, anyway?" Over 100 Years Old I have to be careful not to tear his felt jacket or bang into his china face. He's a little hard of hearing, but I'm right next to his ear so that works out. I don't have to yell. I just whisper, so the rest of the world doesn't know what we're talking about.
Rainy Day Dark, rumbly days are cozy. Perfect time to get out some old books and catch up on reading. I lit a candle just in case the power goes out. I started reading Hiawatha, but that's really long. I looked at the pictures. Books are cozy. Sometimes you don't have to read. You can just stretch out and lounge....and inhale all those old library kind of smells. Candles are cool, too. In fact sometimes I find a candle more intriguing than a book. That may be because I am a bear of adventure. In fact I almost fell forward into the flame. After I got over that trauma, I sort of wanted a marshmallow.
How to Celebrate I need to plan the day. First I'm going to sit around with some peppers and get inspired about what to cook. These peppers are very colorful. Climbing If I get bored with planning, I could practice some of my climbing skills on the peppers. Or I could even climb the sombrero! Thinking about peppers makes me thirsty. What kind of drink should I have with my festive Mexican dishes? Tequila! I could think about making some margaritas. But it's a long climb up that old Tequila bottle. I'll have probably have to rest a while, on my way up. Opening the Bottle
If I do make it to the top of the bottle, I have no idea how to unscrew the lid! It's still morning. I have all day to plan. Evening Update! I lucked out by joining Don and Beth, with a little evening celebration! I may look as if I'm posing like the lime... but my paw is actually absorbing some delicious flavors! A paw makes a very good sponge!
Sewing Adventure? I guess sewing doesn't sound like much of an adventure. But, taking on a sewing project when you're my size IS an adventure! Big Needle! That needle almost reaches up to my shoulder! Now look at my paws... how could I possibly...? Changed My Mind I liked the idea of making something, but a spool makes a very good chair.
Bottle Brush I love it when the bottle brush blooms. Beth hates the red stuff when it falls all over the patio and makes the pool look furry. A Bee But I sit on a branch sort of like a pilot and watch the wildlife nearby. It's really exciting when a bee comes to visit. A Flower I don't like sitting on flowers when bees are around. I can't hide so much there. Pretty Vines I really like these yellow trumpety things the best! You can really find some good spots in those twisty vines. I like resting back on the vines like a hammock. It's the perfect combination of warm and cool! This I Like! I really like it when a butterfly comes to call!
So Windy It's windy today and I'm remembering... This is me last year...ballooning! It wasn't that scary looking down. I was tied to a chair. I was a little startled when the green balloon popped. Then Beth made a quick dash when the wind started to loosen the ribbon tied to the chair! It was very exciting. A Question for Beth I asked, "Can't we go kiting today?" That seemed like a really fun idea.
Beth said, "Nope." She could have at least said, "Maybe tomorrow." Decorated Eggs I wish I could say that I decorated these eggs myself. I wish I could tell you I picked these flowers by myself. But I've been to busy guarding my candy. Happy Easter!
Letting Loose! Beth is letting me take over the blog! I've been rebelling against past cutesy photos. Last week I hopped a train and made it to Bourbon Street just in time for festivities. Lent? Now it's time to get serious. What should I give up for Lent? As soon as I can wade out of this mess and get back to Houston, I'll think about it. Beth said she used to give up candy as a kid. But she also confided that during Lent, she stored every uneaten treat in an empty Nestle's Quik container. I say that's cheating. Dang, Beth! Stop posting on my blog! I can't believe she posted another Where's Waldo thing. Okay, so I'm in a bowl of stupid decorations at Beth's house. I didn't want anyone to really know I was just in Texas.
I'm a little late starting Lent, but I'm going to give up lying. So, fine... I never went to New Orleans. Maybe next year! Celebrating the Chinese New Year After falling in champagne on December 31, Little Bear played down the Chinese celebration, just a bit. Tea and fortune cookie...no alcohol. Lots of pondering for Bear. He is sad that he had never been to China. Although he did visit Houston's Forbidden Garden last year. Here he is, shown last year, tucked inside the ear of a statue... pouting. He had just learned they were dismantling the museum. But then he climbed onto the roof of a miniature building... ...and found a small friend who shared his concerns. They gazed out over the sea of Chinese Warriors... ... and watched some very annoying buyers cart them away, one by one. Then Bear recognized someone buying one of the warriors! No more complaints from Bear... He and the Warrior have become close friends!
Celebrating at Home No big parties on December 31, 2011. Just a quiet evening at home with a little a champagne. Before the bubbles died down, I grabbed a few props for the bear and let him enjoy a bit of the festive. Close Up View Little Bear wanted a better view. He found the foaming bubbles very entertaining. I didn't do it! I honestly didn't push him in. However, I did take advantage of the moment and snapped a couple photos before I pulled him out and gave him a quick rinse.
One close call for the bear! |
